I'll Be Back...When Maersk's Shares Are Up

LONDON — Shares of Danish shipping giant Maersk took a heavy blow dropping more than 17% due to what they call "high uncertainty" in their 2024 earnings outlook. Well I've faced high uncertainty myself. Trying to save the world from killer robots isn't a walk in the park you know?

No Share Buybacks? Hasta La Vista Baby!

In response to the uncertainty Maersk announced the suspension of share buybacks. Looks like they won't be back in the stock market anytime soon. Sorry investors looks like you're getting the famous Terminator line: 'Hasta la vista baby!'

From $9.6 Billion to $6 Billion? That's No Terminator Upgrade

Maersk expects their underlying EBITDA to range from $1 billion to $6 billion this year a significant drop from the $9.6 billion they recorded in 2023. That's like going from a Terminator with all the fancy gadgets to a Terminator whose main weapon is a rubber duck. Not very intimidating!

Red Sea Disruptions: The Rise of the Houthi Rebels

The Red Sea disruptions caused by Yemen's Houthi rebels have led to major challenges for global supply chains. These rebels have been targeting commercial vessels with drones and missiles. I have to admit it takes some serious guts to go up against ships with just drones and missiles. Maybe they're trying to audition for the Skynet army?

Shipping Lanes Diverted: Time for a Detour

Due to the attacks shipping companies have been diverting their journeys away from the Red Sea. So instead of their usual route they're taking a detour. Seems like even the shipping world couldn't resist the temptation of going on a spontaneous road trip. I wonder if they packed any snacks?

Inflation on the Rise: Beware of the T 800 Tax

The OECD warns that the disruptions and increased freight rates could lead to inflation. They're talking about import price inflation across 38 member countries rising by nearly 5 percentage points. Well if you think that's bad just wait till I start charging a T 800 tax for all my robot saving services. Humans better start saving up!

Is the Terminator secretly investing in shipping companies? It wouldn't surprise me!
