Shrek's Glimpse Behind the Scenes

Well well well look who's flying high! Airbus has plans to defy the odds and deliver even more aircraft to its customers in 2024. But don't be fooled by their healthy results my swamp dwelling friends because behind the scenes there's an ogre sized supply chain headache causing all sorts of chaos for this European airplane maker.

Flying High with Healthy Results

In its latest annual earnings report Airbus revealed that it had a fruitful year in its commercial aircraft business. The company reported a 4% rise in adjusted earnings before interest and tax amounting to a whopping 5.8 billion euros ($6.2 billion). Revenue climbed 11% signaling that things were looking up for the aviation giant.

Airbus vs. Boeing: A Tale of Struggles and Contrasts

While Airbus is soaring its American rival Boeing is navigating through rough skies. Manufacturing quality control concerns have plagued Boeing after an emergency door panel blew off one of its 737 Max 9 jetliners. Talk about flying door first! It's safe to say that Airbus is enjoying the view from the top while Boeing is catching turbulence.

Order Backlog: No Room for Airline Hopping

Airbus had a message for airlines looking to ditch Boeing and switch suppliers: Sorry no vacant seats here. With a hefty order backlog for its A320 narrow body jets Airbus is confident that it won't see any short term bumps caused by competitor hopping. Looks like Boeing will have to wait its turn if it wants to win back its customers. Talk about being stuck in a swamp!

The Long Game: Decade Long Wait for New Orders

If you're thinking about placing a new airplane order you better have patience like an onion. According to Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury openings for new airplane orders won't be available until the next decade. That's a long way to wait my fairytale friends. In the meantime the ogre sized rivalry between Airbus and Boeing continues shaping the competitive positioning of these aviation giants.

Cash Piles and Special Dividends

Airbus has got a treasure trove of cash just like my good old mate Puss in Boots. The company's cash pile rose to a whopping 10.7 billion euros a 14% increase from before. And what do you do when you have a generous stash? You share the wealth! Airbus announced plans to pay shareholders a special dividend on top of the regular dividend reflecting their growth prospects and strong balance sheet. It's raining gold coins in Toulouse my swamp loving comrades!
