Chipmaker Broadcom to streamline portfolio with sale to private equity firm KKR.
Chipmaker Broadcom to streamline portfolio with sale to private equity firm KKR.

The Deal

Ah Breaking Bad! I mean Broadcom is on the verge of striking a $3.8 billion deal to offload its end user computing business to private equity giant KKR. Looks like Broadcom CEO Hock Tan is pulling out his signature Heisenberg move to streamline the company’s portfolio after bagging VMware in a whopping $69 billion deal. I guess that’s what I call a 'blue sky' strategy!

The Auction Drama

KKR emerged victorious in a fierce auction for Broadcom's end user computing unit beating out other potential suitors like EQT. It seems like Tio Salamanca's dinging bell wasn't enough to scare off the competition this time. If only I could cook up some money like this deal!

Keeping it Confidential

The deal could be announced soon but for now it's all hush hush. I mean we can’t have Hank Schrader snooping around the office now can we? KKR is playing it cool while Broadcom and EQT are tight lipped. Loose lips sink ships... or deals in this case!

KKR's History With Deals

KKR sure knows how to make deals in the tech sector. From buying BMC to merging it with Compuware these guys are like a well oiled meth operation but legal. Their acquisition of Ensono just proves that they're not in the business of half measures. They're in it to win it just like yours truly.

The Advisors

Evercore Deutsche Bank and Jefferies are leading the charge for KKR in this deal while Citigroup is batting for Broadcom. The financing team is all set with UBS Group Jefferies and KKR's capital market unit ready to make it rain. Looks like everyone's digging deep to make this crystal clear.

The Bottom Line

As my buddy Jesse Pinkman would say 'Yeah science!' I mean technology. With this deal Broadcom is shaking things up like a good old chemical reaction. Who knew that a high school chemistry teacher could turn into a tech tycoon? All I can say is stay tuned for more drama in the tech world!
