Waymo voluntarily recalls software after robotaxis crash into towed pickup truck

Waymo Takes a Hit

Oh dear Odin would you believe it? Waymo Alphabet's self driving vehicle unit has filed a voluntary recall notice for their driverless cars. The recall comes after two robotaxis crashed into the same towed pickup truck. Talk about some serious fumbles!

Voluntary Recall

In a shocking turn of events Waymo actually decided to take responsibility for their mishap and voluntarily recall the software. Now that's a surprise. I guess even the mighty can admit their mistakes.

Minor Damage Major Embarrassment

Luckily no passengers were harmed in the collisions and only minor damage was done to the vehicles. But let's face it Waymo this is a major embarrassment for your so called 'advanced' technology.

Blame It on the Towed Vehicle

According to Waymo their automated driving system incorrectly predicted the 'future motion of a towed vehicle.' Classic mistake am I right? Well at least they're updating their software to fix this issue. Better late than never!

Public Backlash

It seems like there's been a lot of public backlash recently against driverless vehicles. People are concerned about safety and the impact on jobs. But Waymo has managed to avoid most of the criticism thanks to their fancy communications with agencies like the NHTSA. Smooth moves Waymo.

The Competition Isn't Doing Much Better

While Waymo may be facing some challenges their competitors aren't exactly shining bright either. Cruise owned by GM had their permits suspended after a pedestrian was dragged by one of their robotaxis. And Tesla? Well they've been promising a self driving system for years but all they've got are fancy names like 'Autopilot' and 'Full Self Driving.' Talk about false advertising!
