Putting Accessibility in the Spotlight

Starbucks has just revealed their new store design that is focused on accessibility and inclusion. Finally a coffee giant stepping up to the plate! No more struggling to get through the door with your morning caffeine craving. I mean who needs an arm workout when all you want is a latte?!

A Cafe Fit for All

The first of these accessible cafes has opened in Washington D.C.'s Union Market complete with power operated doors that make entering a breeze. That's right folks it's as easy as pie (or should I say as easy as ordering a Tiramisu Frappuccino with almond milk and extra whipped cream).

Designed by Baristas for Baristas

According to Sara Trilling the president of Starbucks North America this transformation took about two years. They even got the input of their beloved baristas. Who better to tell you what a cafe needs than the ones behind the counter? They must have been so thrilled to finally have a say in something other than which milk to use for a Flat White!

The Perfect Pour Over

But let's not forget the most important part the coffee! Starbucks' new brewing system the Clover Vertica lets you brew that drip coffee to perfection. And let me tell you the design is so accessible that even a blindfolded donkey could use it. Trust me I've seen worse baristas. Way worse.

Good Lighting Good Vibes

Starbucks didn't just stop at the door and the coffee; they've thought of it all. The store lighting has been changed to minimize glare shadows and backlighting. Finally you won't have to squint like you're looking into the sun just to read the menu. And they've even improved insulation so you won't be shouting 'Double shot Cappuccino!' to be heard over the noise. Bravo Starbucks bravo.

The Future is Accessible

But hold on to your macchiatos because this accessible design isn't just a one off. Starbucks plans to roll out the new store framework to all company owned locations in the future. That means you won't have to scour the city for an accessible Starbucks. And with more than 600 new stores set to open this year that means more caffeine and accessibility for everyone!
