Don't Take Him Too Seriously
A top adviser to Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign Susie Wiles has a message for some of the wealthiest Republican donors: Don't take the former president's divisive rhetoric too seriously. She made the pitch at a private gathering of the American Opportunity Alliance a group of Republican megadonors encouraging them to ignore Trump's offensive remarks.
Focus on His Lead
Wiles emphasized that despite his controversial statements Trump is in pole position in the Republican primary for president. She urged the donors to focus on the fact that he is the GOP's best hope to defeat incumbent President Joe Biden.
Ignoring the Hyperbole
Wiles' message to donors echoes the spin from White House staff during Trump's presidency. As the most powerful person in the world at the time Trump's tweets often influenced financial markets. Trump's aides would claim that his tweets did not represent official policies.
Success for Wiles' Pitch
Wiles' pitch seemed to work on some of the participants. Aides of the American Opportunity Alliance members were overheard asking for her contact information indicating potential donations to the Trump campaign.
Trump's Strong Lead in South Carolina
Trump currently leads Nikki Haley his rival by a significant margin in her home state of South Carolina. This strong lead positions him favorably in the upcoming Republican primary.
Biden's Campaign Cash Advantage
While Trump's campaign seeks donations incumbent President Joe Biden is already raising significant amounts of money for his reelection campaign. At a recent cocktail party in Florida Biden raised over $6 million showing a clear advantage.
