The Birth of Player 15 Group

Well well well it seems that Mat Ishbia owner of the Phoenix Suns has decided to boldly go where no Suns owner has gone before. He is forming a new sports entertainment and real estate investment group called the Player 15 Group. It's like the Klingon Empire joining forces with the United Federation of Planets a match made in the universe.

Building a Stellar Team

The Player 15 Group will serve as the home for not only the Phoenix Suns but also the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA and the newly acquired G League team for the Suns. Finally the Suns have found their own Spock to complete their landing party. No longer will they be the odd ones out in the NBA without a G League affiliate. Resistance is futile!

A Man with a Mission

"Player 15 represents that mantra that we're all about the team all the time," said Ishbia. Ah the Vulcan philosophy of IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations) applies even in the world of basketball. It seems Ishbia has embraced the teachings of Surak the Vulcan philosopher. Fascinating.

Expanding the Empire

Not content with just basketball teams the Player 15 Group will also oversee the operations of the downtown Phoenix Footprint Center arena. And there's more! A $100 million development is in the works for a new Suns and Mercury team campus and a dedicated Mercury practice facility. Looks like Ishbia is boldly going where no owner has gone before creating a world not only of sports but also real estate and entertainment. Live long and prosper indeed.

The Personal Touch

But why the name Player 15? Well it turns out that Ishbia himself wore the No. 15 jersey while playing basketball for Michigan State University. He was the 15th player on the roster the last one to make the team. Spock would say "Interesting. A tribute to the underdog the one who defies the odds and proves their worth." The last one to be chosen but the first one to make a lasting impact.

A Record Breaking Journey

It has been quite a journey for Ishbia from being the owner of the Suns and Mercury to his role as CEO of United Wholesale Mortgage. With a net worth of over $8 billion he's definitely reached the final frontier of success. But let's not forget his basketball roots as he was part of the Spartans championship team in 2000. He may not have been the star player but as Spock would say "In critical moments men sometimes see exactly what they wish to see." Ishbia saw opportunity and now he's taking it to the next level with Player 15.
