TUI Investors Say Auf Wiedersehen to London

In a move that will have Shrek saying 'What are you doing in my swamp?' shareholders of TUI have voted overwhelmingly to ditch its share listing in London and move it exclusively to Frankfurt. With the transfer set to occur on June 24 it seems TUI is feeling more at home in the land of bratwurst and lederhosen.

A Liquidity Leap to Frankfurt

Apparently Shrek was right when he said 'better out than in'. TUI revealed that a whopping 77% of transactions in its shares are already settled via German exchanges with the U.K. accounting for less than a quarter. So it seems like a no brainer for the company to pack its bags and head over to Frankfurt where the volume of liquidity is already flowing.

TUI Takes the Puss in Boots Approach

While some might argue that TUI's move is just another example of companies abandoning London for greener pastures others like me prefer to see it as a calculated decision. Just like when I chose to don my swashbuckling boots in 'Shrek 2' TUI is making a move that's specific to its own circumstances not indicative of a trend. Smart move I must say!

Oh London Why the Long Face?

London has seen its fair share of de listings and IPO snubs lately with companies like Arm choosing to list elsewhere. While it's disappointing for London let's not forget that the city still has its charm. As I always say 'Some days you get the bear and other days the bear gets you.' London will bounce back!

London: Not Just a Shrek Film Location

Sure London might not be the top choice for companies recently but let's not forget that it's still a contender. As Donkey would say 'That's right fool! Now I'm a flying talking donkey!' So let's not count London out just yet. It's got more to offer than fairy tales and ogres.

London Keeps Calm and Carries On

Despite the departures and snubs London isn't giving up without a fight. On various metrics it remains the largest exchange in Europe and has actually held its own in terms of activity. As Gingerbread Man would say 'You're a monster!' Nope London is just a resilient city.
